Learning Lab: Re-thinking High Performance

Learning Labs
January 21, 2021

Learning Lab #19

The term ‘High Performance’ is pervasive in organisational life.

Like all such generalised concepts, interpretations of meaning and judgements of value differ widely.

There are those who now strongly oppose the concept, arguing that it is mechanically instrumental to organisational ambition and devoid of human consideration.

The time has come to pause, reflect, and consider what true ‘High Performance’ might mean.

We are in an era defined ever more by the need to exercise social responsibility and to nurture people in the workplace rather than exploit them.

Our task now is to think about a more generative and sustainable vision of High Performance, one that combines concern for employee wellbeing with the kinds of behaviours that generate sustainable success.
