'Manage your energy, not your time.'
This was the advice given in an influential 2007 article in the Harvard Business Review by Tony Schwartz and Catherine McCarthy. It’s one that really struck us and stuck with us, and we’re using it as a launchpad for this Lab. We’re going to adopt a holistic approach – informed by positive psychology - to explore what it means to set-up and balance the charge on our personal energy grids.
There are inputs and there are outputs to those grids. We save energy by, for example, not doing it all ourself, coaching instead of doing other people‘s work for them, and looking after ourselves so that we’re better able to handle demanding meetings. We spend energy having difficult conversations, tackling demanding tasks, and pushing ourselves into new professional territory.
The secret then is to keep the grid adequately charged, but not overloaded, and not undersupplied.
Come along, plug-in and recharge together through enlightening conversation, dynamic activities and expert insight.
We'll consider:
- Transformation: the different forms of energy supply we can draw on (physical, psychological, spiritual, emotional…) and how they interact.
- Short-circuits: ways in which we can keep in check those things we find draining, or even blowing our fuses.
- High-power applications: when we want to focus and release a lot of energy into something of great importance to us.
- Renewables: where to find our own good clean sources of energy that replenish us.
- The hybrid engine: applied to situations which both draw-on but can also feed our energy reserves.
What to expect:
A high-energy session which will leave you buzzing and ready to distribute your energies in new, sustainable ways.
