In collaboration with our partners Tall Tree and Norfolk County Council we delivered a comprehensive Excellence in Management Programme, which has developed the potential of over 400 front-line managers in the last six years.
One of the largest councils in the UK, Norfolk County Council has a clear ambition to develop the potential of its front-line managers – to help cope with an increased demand for its services at the same time as a reduction in direct government grant.
Our successful programme - now in its 19th iteration – comprises of two modules, with several weeks in between each two-day session.
The aim is to enable managers to use a coaching approach to develop staff, manage one-to-one performance and lead high–performing teams.
Drawing from high-performance environments - including elite sport and the Royal Marines - module one provides the intellectual grounding for managers to review their leadership mind-set and knowledge.
They go away from this module with clear action plans relating to how they create high performance in their own teams.
During module two we review their progress before immersing them in high-intensity skills training in how to run effective performance management conversations and develop the potential of their staff through coaching.
A particular highlight of this second module is the use of professional actors/coaches working closely with participants to helping them hone skills without the need for role-play.
92% of participants rated the programme as excellent in both ‘raising awareness around what I need to do differently to raise my game as a manager’ and as ‘relevant to the issues I am facing in my role’.
