Leadership Development

"Learning just how others saw me was a salutary lesson, and a powerful stimulus to ensuring I treated others in a way that would get the best out of them"
– Group leader, media telesales

We run a range of courses designed to create effective leaders. All are adapted to a particular client’s needs and hence are commissioned. We do not run open courses. Here is a summary of the courses most often commissioned:

Leadership development

The key goal is to enable participants to understand their impact on others and develop the style of leadership which is most appropriate to them.

Clients from BBC Resources, House of Fraser, NATS and the British Council have benefited from these courses.

Feedback is a vital tool in leadership development. We use our own 360 degree feedback, where information on an individual is gathered from a range of those who come into contact with them; superiors, colleagues, those who report to them and customers who deal with them, to create a fully-rounded portrait of how their performance is perceived.

We also use psychometric instruments, which offer a useful way of measuring personality.

These courses are intensive, usually lasting between three and five days, with the agenda party set by the needs of the participants but with an underlying core of process and skills development.

Influencing and negotiating

The core aim is to enable managers to gain a much greater understanding of how their behaviour affects others, to learn to sell their ideas more effectively and to give and receive praise and criticism constructively.

All managers will benefit from this very practical two- to three-day course, but it is especially valuable for those who have relied solely on technical expertise to ensure their effectiveness.

It covers the six core skills or 'levers of influence'. The three push skills setting out what you think should happen – logical persuasion, giving feedback and asking for what you want, and the three pull skills focusing on what the other person wants – authentic listening, asking skilful questions and creating trust.

Managing personal change

These high-energy, uplifting one-day events are for managers facing radical change and focus on giving them the ability to sell themselves to new employers. They are proving immensely popular with organisations facing mergers and major reorganisation.

Participants rediscover their self-confidence and recall the skills they need to market themselves, including CV writing and interview technique.

Presentation skills

A presentation is a performance, and this is one of many areas in which Management Futures uses experienced actors to teach ‘stage’ presence, mastering an audience and public speaking. We work in particular with REACT: Acting for Business, and also with colour consultants who can help managers hone their dress and personal appearance. Courses can either be for groups or on a one-to-one basis.

Outdoor management training

Where effective teamwork is essential to success, group activities in the open air can often throw up fundamental management insights. We might use the bracing Lake District, or gentler Oxfordshire, but expressly avoid a macho approach and ensure an environment that is completely supportive and non-threatening – both physically and emotionally.

Fees

Courses can be adapted to your needs and are either residential or non-residential. Fees are based either on per-person trained, or on consultant days involved and expenses.

Contact Alan Rogers, Executive Director, for inquiries, details of fees or to arrange a no-commitment meeting with a coach. Tel: 020 7242 4030 or email: alan.rogers@managementfutures.co.uk.
