Managing Human Resources

“Achieving co-operation between teams who were not part of the same organisational structure had proved problematic for me, but the facilitation skills I learned enabled me to forge ahead.” – Senior manager, media group

We run a range of personal development courses. All are adapted to a particular client’s needs and hence are commissioned. We do not run open courses. Here is a summary of the courses most often commissioned:

Consulting skills

Human resource specialists and those working in change management now frequently work in a consulting role. There are specific skills to be learned in effectively operating as a consultant, and this three- to eight-day modular course explores them. It covers gaining credibility with clients, contracting and agreeing goals, methods of gathering data, managing client relationships and dealing with difficult clients. It is also appropriate for those who want to explore how the consulting approach can enrich a leader’s effectiveness.

Coaching skills courses

These are intensely practical, cover the 30 core skills of coaching, and are ideally suited to organisations that wish to promote a coaching culture. A robust model of coaching is taught, and emphasis is laid on how it differs from psychotherapy, counselling and training. There are innumerable opportunities to practise techniques and receive feedback.

Our sister company, Coaching Futures, which provides support services to many coaches, also runs open courses, details of which are available in its brochure.

Facilitation skills

The ability to facilitate effectively, particularly when working across organisational boundaries where no one has all the power or knows all the answers, is seen by many leaders as a key skill in their portfolio. Skilled facilitators can replace conflict with collaboration. These courses concentrate on practical approaches to facilitation, and enable participants to understand group dynamics, to appreciate the different forms of intervention open to the facilitator, how to deal with conflict and with uncooperative group members. Participants will learn the skills of questioning, clarifying and summarising, how to design events, and gain enormously in self-confidence.

MBTI and FIRO-B

A two-day event that offers managers and HR specialists a greater understanding of these two psychometric instruments and how they work together and add value. This is not an alternative to the Psychometrics course - click on link left for details - but a useful introduction to it.

The first day covers the workings of the basic dimensions of the Myers Brigg Type Indicator (MBTI), which classifies an individual into one of 16 personality types. The morning of the second day introduces the FIRO-B, a brilliant partner to the MBTI which measures behaviour against three dimensions of need. The final afternoon brings the two instruments together, bringing a greater understanding of both.

Fees

Courses can be adapted to your needs and are either residential or non-residential. Fees are based either on per-person trained, or on consultant days involved and expenses

Contact Alan Rogers, Executive Director, for inquiries, details of fees or to arrange a no-commitment meeting with a coach. Tel: 020 7242 4030 or email: alan.rogers@managementfutures.co.uk.
