The English Institute of Sport (EIS) delivers performance enhancing sport science and sport medicine services to over 40 Olympic and Paralympic sports, Premier League Football, Premiership Rugby Union, Rugby League and Cricket.
In partnership with EIS we developed a bespoke 5-day coaching skills programme. Given that practice leads theory by a long way in coaching, we included minimal - but important - input on relevant theory and then designed the remainder of the programme around constant practice with skilled feedback.
Participants came from a number of disciplines including Strength and Conditioning, Performance Nutrition and Performance Psychologists - with the majority from Performance Lifestyle.
Performance Lifestyle Advisors have a key role to play in the EIS team, supporting high-achieving athletes who want to integrate all aspects of their lives without compromising their sporting goals.
With our experience we were able to respond quickly to a variety of participants - quickly building their confidence.
The programme was pitched at graduate level with the option for participants to continue studying towards an ILM Level 7 qualification.
37 participants benefitted from the programme across three cohorts. 16 progressed towards an ILM Level 7 qualification with the support of Management Futures.
Participants successfully used their new skills with athletes from a wide variety of Olympic and Paralympic sports in the build up to the 2012 Olympics - including athletics, triathlon, hockey, sailing, cycling, boxing, badminton, wheelchair basketball and netball.
Six more performance lifestyle coaches have signed up for our qualifications in 2014. Look out Rio!
