The title of Bob Garratt’s book echoes the secret
fears of many Board members, both executive and non-executive.
Recently we have encountered a number of directors,
often of organisations subjected too frequently to reorganisation,
who fear in their bones that as a Board they are far
from effective.
Ideally a Board should act as the business brain for
the whole organisation, clarifying purpose, strategy
and values, keying an eye on competitors and suppliers,
monitoring performance and exercising accountability.
If the brain is not functioning well then the body
will not prosper.
Management Futures will help in complete confidence.
