Most clients see their coaches
for a limited period. Typically monthly for five or
six two-hour sessions. At the top of the organisational
tree, though, chief executives often like to have immediate
access to their trusted coach at any time.
It means they can call on them for a face-to-face or
telephone session at very short notice to deal with
a crisis. The potential for saving money is enormous.
Making the wrong decision under heavy pressure can cost
very large sums of money as well as the human cost and
damage to reputation.
Of course there has to be a relationship of trust built
up over a period. But a top class executive coach who
knows your every weakness as well as your every strength
can be the decisive factor in making a success of the
job.
Some chief executives of FTSE 100 companies pay up
to £100,000 a year for first-class support. The penalty
on them for failure is huge, despite the so-called ‘reward
for failure’ clauses which have achieved notoriety for
some. Corresponding annual fees in the public sector
are surprisingly low by comparison.
Three Directors of Management Futures – Jenny
Rogers, Phil Hayes and Jan Campbell – are at the
top of their profession and have coached many chief
executives, managing directors and board members. They
offer state-of-the-art executive coaching on an open
access annual agreement basis.
One of the benefits of annual agreements is that the
fee include access to the specialist coaches working
for Management Futures. For the public service chief
executive it includes media coaching for a publicity
emergency, presentation coaching to address your staff
or major public meeting and image advice from an expert.
The year-round service, rather than an hour-by-hour
reckoning, undoubtedly increases the value a client
receives not least because it generates greater trust
and depth of understanding. It brings a widely experienced
wisdom to your decision making process and tackles inter-linked
issues in the round – skills, life issues, career,
strategy.
