Tony Duff
Has been working as a coach with leaders (in both public and private sectors), creatives, and entrepreneurs for seven years. His experience of working as a coach has taught him that what we choose for the future is more important than what we know about the past
His areas of particular interest are how the leader’s quality of presence is fundamental to building trust and the most powerful means of influencing others. He has worked effectively with a wide range of clients to develop powerful leadership presence using approaches to build self-awareness and the capacity to be expressive leaders
Clients include:
- Senior British Council officer (male) promoted from a technical financial role who wanted to develop broader range of confident leadership skills – “Got a much more structured way of thinking that allows me to act more effectively”
- Top television executive (male) who had failed to get a promotion as a result of insufficiently strong “people skills” and wanted to ensure that didn’t happen next time round – he was successful – “Learnt how to listen so that my reports really feel listened to and consequently have increased their effectiveness”
- Chief Housing Officer (female) who needed coaching to develop confidence and access personal resources to manage a dysfunctional team – “Achieved real perspective which helps me with determining priorities and attending to them”
- Assistant Director (female) of large charity with work/life imbalance issues and the need to manage a major career transition – “Clearer sense of what my role is and how to carry it out”
Tony’s earlier international career was in the field of English Language Teaching (ELT): from 1990- 1999 he was Director General of International House, during which period he worked closely with the Council – included serving on ETAC (English Language Teaching Advisory Council)
During that time he also served on the Education and Training Sector Advisory Committee to the DTI and VSO Selection Boards
He is currently a member of the Advisory Development Board of BookTrust
Publications in ELT include (as editor) Explorations in Teacher Training (Longman, 1988)
In addition to usual academic and ELT qualifications, he holds the OCR/Management Futures Diploma in Coaching
He supervises candidates for the Institute of Management & Leadership (ILM)/Management Futures Diploma
