Jenny was a pioneer of executive coaching in the UK and has more than 15 years as a coach. As well as her own coaching clients, she now trains and supervises other coaches. What sustains her is her unquenchable curiosity about  human behaviour and her belief that  we  can always learn, develop and grow.

Jenny’s interest as a coach is in how senior leaders can meet the demanding targets of their organisations while at the same time earning the loyalty and trust of the people they manage.  She has a particular interest in career coaching and in working with people who are making significant changes in their careers.  A further interest is in working with senior professionals making the demanding transition to managerial roles.  Recent coaching assignments include:

  • Chief Executive of a hospital, first Chief Executive post, wanted help  with his first 100 days in the job
  • Vice-president  in an international pharmaceutical company needed to rethink her leadership style after tough feedback revealed a belief  that she was sabotaging the business goals of her team
  • Senior investment banker was swamped by apparently ‘urgent’ tasks and needed to reassess his leadership priorities
  • Chief Executive of a voluntary sector organisation could not see how to square her demanding job with her family life
  • Newly-appointed HM Ambassador, wanted to work on how to get better performance out of an allegedly ‘dysfunctional’ team
  • Director of a major media company needed to find a new job in which he would play to his strengths.

As well as her work in the UK, Jenny has worked as a coach in South Africa, North Africa, the Balkans and the United States.  Her clients have included senior people from multinational organisations from every continent.  In earlier career, Jenny spent sixteen years at the BBC where she was a television producer.  She worked as a commissioning editor at The Open College where part of her duties involved commissioning programmes for Channel 4. She is also a regular columnist for several magazines.

Jenny’s books on the MBTI and on the FIRO-B (co-authored with Judy Waterman) sell well on both sides of the Atlantic. Her other books include: Effective Interviews, Effective Influencing and Facilitating Groups.  One of her recent books, Coaching Skills: A Handbook has become a best-seller and the UK standard book for training new coaches. She is Series Editor of a new suite of books, Coaching in Practice from the Open University Press.
