Elspeth Cardy

Elspeth has worked as a qualified coach for the past 4 years, building on her experience in management and team leadership in national and international organisations. She believes that coaching can unleash the energy for significant personal and professional development.

Elspeth works with senior and middle managers at different stages of their careers, and enjoys the variety of the challenges people face. She is interested in working with middle managers seeking to progress to overcome barriers to growth and identifying the energy to make it happen. She also enjoys working with senior managers facing challenging workloads. Many of her clients report increased confidence and sense of control, as well as new insights.

  • Director of a large Division in the public sector wanting help in managing conflicting objectives and priorities;
  • Country Director of a British Council overseas office, seeking to build a management team to share responsibility and drive a complex change process;
  • Manager recently promoted to a senior post wanting coaching and feedback on management style, presentation skills and ‘holding her own’ with her peers;
  • Assistant Director of a national Agency dealing with a stressful conflict situation. He wanted to work on performance issues and find ways to handle the conflict;
  • Young, able team member seeking to drive a creative project forward, wanting coaching to support him in making the case to senior colleagues. 

As a former Communications Director for the Education and Training Group of the British Council, Elspeth has extensive experience of working in international situations. She has led and chaired international working groups in education and worked regularly on European project development with colleagues from other countries. She recently worked as a team coach for an overseas office, is used to working in bilingual environments, and can work in French.

Elspeth’s background is in national adult education, training, programme development and communications. She was instrumental in developing national and international training networks, publications and projects, in the context of European education and training initiatives. In 2001 she was awarded the Honour of Chevalier dans l’ordre des Palmes Academiques by the French Government, for her services to international exchange and development with France and the French language.

Elspeth supervises candidates for the ILM Diploma in Coaching.
