What's the Process?
A series of six two hour meetings is often sufficient to produce permanent and positive change, although we also offer year-long unlimited coaching contracts. We also offer specialist coaching in areas such as presentation and voice, career coaching, job interview coaching, handling the media, "the first 100 days", image and style. Typically, this is what happens:
- The client chooses their coach: coaching should always be voluntary and clients may have strong preferences about the kind of background or personality they need from a coach
- A briefing conversation with the client’s boss as well as the client to identify the benefits for the organisation from coaching
- Careful preparation in advance, through an exchange of documentation between client and coach the client starts the thinking that will lead to change
- Discussing how the boss can support the action plans that will emerge from the coaching
- Working with the client to create or assemble robust data on self-perception and on how others see them – for instance through 360° feedback or psychometric questionnaires, performance appraisals
- Occasionally: observation and shadowing where the coach sees the client through a normal day or half day
- Developing a rigorous agenda for change and learning based on the data
- A series of regular two hour meetings with the coach in which this agenda is tackled with sensitivity, humour, practicality, and psychological insight.
- Email and phone support between meetings.
Unlike everyone else in the client’s life – their boss, their team, their friends, their partner – as coaches we have only one aim: the client’s learning. This gives us remarkable freedom – we have no need to fear the loss of an important relationship through candid speaking.
