Shaama is a trained coach and an independent organisation development consultant with nearly twenty years experience of working as a senior executive.  She is a former Director of Human Resources in the public sector.

 Over her career, she has acquired a wide range of high-level strategic management and leadership skills, particularly those pertinent to complex organisations.

She has worked at Board level and with senior executives to lead and implement culture change programmes, re-profile services, troubleshoot performance issues, improve leadership and strategic capabilities and effectiveness.  Shaama’s goals are to help organisations re-define success, find effective ways of sustaining it and re-energise individual talent.

Shaama has an open and relaxed communication style combined with high levels of energy and a sense of fun.  She supports individuals to achieve their desired goals by exploring their real issues with creativity and flair.  Her clients particularly value her ability to ask the ‘ouch’ questions that take them to a new level of thinking.  Her clients include senior executives and ‘rising talent’ individuals from local authorities, civil service, health authorities, arts and media quangos, IT industry, housing associations, pharmaceutical multinationals and the voluntary/charity sector.

  • Senior, isolated manager of BME origin in a local authority, who needed to develop alternative strategies to assert effectively to manage workplace conflicts and stress.
  • European regional manager of a multinational insurance company who wished to find effective ways of reconciling the competing demands of a new family and ‘globetrotting’
  • Director of International Operations for a worldwide volunteer organisation for young women who, needed to improve her leadership and change management skills for managing a diverse and sometimes conflicted multinational, multicultural team
  • Senior executive in an international pharmaceuticals company who needed to improve his personal impact and find ways of effectively transferring his specialist skills to a higher leadership role with an extended generalist portfolio.

Shaama is a lay member of Employment Tribunals and an assessor for the National Clinical Assessment Service of the National Patient Safety Agency.  She is also a Board member of a Housing Association and a member of the HR committee of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.  She is a former trustee of an international healthcare development charity and has previously also sat on numerous other voluntary executive committees.  She is also active in encouraging more diverse participation and representation in public appointments and is the founder of DiPA (Diversity in Public Appointments), an organisation dedicated to improving diversity of representation in public appointments.

Qualifications:

Shaama is qualified to develop and administer various psychometric tests, including Myers Briggs and Belbin. She holds the Diploma in Coaching.
