Management Futures Professional Qualifications in Coaching

On registering for the qualification we will provide electronic and hard copies of proformas to record your work and aid reflective practice. These notes provide an overview of the work involved.

The Certificate

The teaching and practice for the certificate can be split in to 5 phases as follows:

  1. Pre-course reading and self assessment of skills . We will provide these as background and introduction 4 weeks before the course.
  2. Attendance at the 5 day intensive coaching skills course. The course will refine and develop your skills as a coach by practice, feedback and demonstrations of techniques. There are 2 opportunities to coach clients and obtain detailed feedback from tutors during the week. You will also use peer coaching to enhance your learning and reflect on practice using a learning log. On the final day you will be assigned a supervisor and be given a written account of your strengths and development areas as a coach at this stage.
  3. Background reading and a one day tutorial on the role of coaching in a leadership context to assist you with the work based assignment. The assignment is a critical review of the nature of coaching in developing leaders and leadership.
  4. Coaching practice to include 4 hours of peer coaching and 10 hours of client coaching. You are expected to produce reflective notes on these sessions and to obtain feedback from both peers and clients to aid reflection and learning. Your supervisor will assess one hour of your practice on a tape/CD and provide written feedback.
  5. Produce a development plan based on practice and feedback to date. Submit the assignment and reflective notes with the development plan for assessment.

The minimum time to complete the certificate is 6 months and the work must be submitted  2 years from the date of registration. No extensions are available beyond that time.

The Diploma

The diploma involves an extended period of supervised practice following on from all 5 phases listed above for the certificate. The learning is phased as follows:

  1. Set personal learning  goals based on the plan outlined in 5 above and agree these with your supervisor
  2. Undertake 125 hours of coaching practice with assessment of 2 taped sessions after 50 hours and 100 hours of coaching. Produce reflective notes on practice and progress with learning based on your own reflections and feedback from clients, supervisor and peers as a learning log.

  4. Attend 2 Advanced Practitioner Network events or other networks to support your development.
