LESSONS FROM SPORT FOR EXECUTIVE COACHES
September 30
Phil Hayes
Coaching has always been a feature of high performance for sports people - they have always had coaches and would be thought very odd if they didn’t. Just as practice is considered essential in the world of sports and the arts – as the woman who asked “How do I get to Carnegie Hall?” was famously told “Practise, lady, practise”. Yet in business practice and rehearsal are quite rare. So what lessons does the world of sports coaching offer the executive coach?
Phil is not a sports coach but he is a modestly-skilled amateur golfer who coaches a young professional. He coaches this high-performer not on technical issues but on the vital mental factors that make all the difference when pressure is on in tournament play.
This session explores the parallels between coaching for 'optimal' state of mind in the sporting arena and in the business world.
